The Solihull Approach on-line Parenting Guides

posted in: News, Useful Information

Free online guides are now available for families across Frimley Health and Care ICS including Slough, Ascot, Bracknell, Farnham, Windsor & Maidenhead, North East Hampshire, Surrey and South Bucks. The Solihull Approach guides contain advice relevant to expectant parents, parents, grandparents and carers of children of all ages (bump – 19 years), including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The guides are available in a number of different languages and are divided into four courses of 5 or 11 modules each:

  • Understanding your pregnancy, labour, birth and your baby
  • Understanding your baby
  • Understanding your child 0 to 18 years
  • Understanding your teenager’s brain

The Solihull Approach can be accessed via using the free ‘access code’ Parenting (or Acorn if you have a Surrey postcode). Users will need to set up an account on the website.

Intended to complement rather than replace existing resources, these online guides could also be a valuable additional tool while normal services are limited due to Covid-19.

The format of a series of short modules means that busy parents or carers can dip in and out of the guides as and when they have time. Access to the guides is unlimited with no expiry date, allowing users to return to modules several times if they want to. There are also activities that can be carried out between modules.  Some of the courses are offered in Urdu, Chinese, Polish, Bulgarian and Arabic.
