Carers Charter

SPACE associates value the vital work done by carers and are committed to supporting them. The Carers Charter provides principles on the way organisations will interact with Carers.

What carers can expect from us:

  • Early identification of their caring role
  • Recognition of the contribution they make
  • Listen to what they say and communicate clearly with them
  • Recognition that all carers are different
  • To be sent information for carers
  • Signposting to relevant information and advice and enable them to get help from the relevant support services
  • Ensure they know how to access a Carers Assessment
  • Creation of a prevention plan or support plan as part of the carers assessment to facilitate support which is tailored to their needs
  • Acknowledgement of carers’ needs beyond their caring role and consideration of their health and wellbeing
  • Respect of their choices, knowledge and experiences
  • Respond in a timely way to their needs, particularly during times of crisis
  • A ‘whole family’ approach to supporting carers, recognising the needs of young carers
  • Respecting that young carers have the same rights and opportunities as other children and young people
