Calling all carers in Slough, if you are amongst the 11,500 carers living in the Slough area, then Carers Week 2018, taking place between June 11th and June 15th, is just for you.
Slough Carers Support will be kicking off the week with an Unsung Heroes Celebratory Event, at the Masonic Centre in Slough, on June 11th, between 11a.m. and 3:30p.m. This year we are delighted that the event is being sponsored by Sainsbury’s, who will be providing a delicious lunch for you to enjoy. The celebration will also include: keynote speeches from Clinical Commissioning Group Lead, Jim O’Donnell and Head of Adult Social Services at Slough Borough Council, Alan Sinclair; performances from local artists, including S.W.I.PE. Steel band; interactive sessions from local organisation and groups, including Apna Virsa; plus, helpful information and advice to support you and some relaxing pampering, courtesy of Debenhams.
Ramesh Kukar, CEO at Slough CVS said: “At some stage in our lives, we will all become a carer, whether it is for our children, spouse, partner or parent. The work carers do, is nothing short of amazing and the amount they save the NHS and Local Authority cannot be underestimated. Our Unsung Heroes Celebratory Event is a chance for us to thank carers for the valuable contribution that they make to society and for carers to come together and recognise themselves as being important.”
Slough Carers Support recognises that carers need to take time out to care for themselves and we hope that the range of activities on offer during Carers Week, will give carers a taste of what is available year-round. During the week, the regular sessions from Men’s Matters, Cippenham Carers Group, the Memory Clinic, U3A, Community Mental Health Team Carers Café and Special Voices will run, plus, there will be a host of special events including: a Deep Relaxation Yoga session, sponsored by Yoga4Autism Therapy and a Carers Networking Lunch, sponsored by Three. To top off an exciting week, Slough Carers Support, in association with the Gavron Gold programme, run by the Royal Opera House, are offering 12 exclusive tickets to see Swan Lake in London.
